4 Day Course
The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) IP402 – Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings course provides a range of theory and practical knowledge for those wishing to undertake asbestos building surveys.
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide and have some prior knowledge of carrying out asbestos surveys.
Candidates will receive training in the nature of asbestos and its associated health effects and a detailed review of the various products that contain asbestos.
The course will cover the theory and practical aspects of planning and undertaking asbestos surveys in buildings of various types, the safe and representative sampling of all types of asbestos materials.
Delegates will be trained to produce reports in incorporating material and priority risk assessments and make appropriate remedial recommendations to their clients.
The course includes a full range of PowerPoint presentations, accompanying notes and additional course materials.
Who is it for?
The course is designed to offer candidates the practical knowledge and skills to be able to undertake surveys and bulk sampling for asbestos in buildings. In addition, candidates will have the practical knowledge to be able to offer appropriate management and remediation advice to clients post survey.

- Asbestos in buildings
- Surveys and management of asbestos in buildings
- General guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to identified asbestos
Candidates will be required to pass all of the following to be awarded the module:
- Formative Practical Assessment
- Written Theory Examination
- Written Practical Examination
Successful completion of the course will give delegates the practical knowledge and skills to be able to carry out building surveys and asbestos bulk sampling in accordance with HSG264. A formal certificate is issued to successful candidates directly by BOHS.
The course culminates in a 2 hour written exam and 2 hour written practical exam on the final day which is formulated and administered by BOHS Candidates must pass both the written and written practical assessments to be awarded the BOHS IP402 – Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings Training Course certificate.
