Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral that has historically been used extensively in industrial and building products.
Unfortunately asbestos, when inhaled as respirable fibres over a period of time, can result in asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma (cancer of the lung lining).

Asbestos is commonly either Chrysotile (white), Amosite (brown) or Crocidolite (blue).
It can be found in common building products such as:
  • Flat and corrugated cement sheeting
  • Moulded cement products (spouting, down pipes, flues etc)
  • Vinyl floor tiles
  • Sheet vinyl backing
It also has many industrial uses including:
  • Pipe and vessel insulation
  • Gaskets
The management of asbestos in the workplace is controlled by the Asbestos (Health and Safety in Employment) Regulations 1998 with guidance being given in the Department of Labour’s publication “Guidelines for the Management and Removal of Asbestos”.

To help you comply, TriEx provides workplace asbestos audits and assessments.

What is involved?

The audits include:
  • Comprehensive inspection of the premises
  • Sampling and analysis of suspect materials
  • Assessment of the risk to employee health, posed by the asbestos
  • Recommendations for the maintenance or abatement of asbestos materials

TriEx can also provide advice and monitoring and supervision of asbestos removal operations on your site.
